Kitten scratches hurt the most because their claws are smaller that full grown cats and the claws are almost needle-like. One of the reasons it hurts so much is because their claws have a lot of germs. This about a cat using the litter box and then scratching you. Enough said - BLECH!
The best thing I have used on cat scratches is Neosporin. It has an antibacterial ingredient. You may have to apply several times over a few days to get the pain and itching to stop.
As far as keeping a cat from scratching you - frankly, you just need to learn how to handle them. I've had cats for years and rarely get scratched. There are ways to hold them and to cup their feet in your hands that minimizes scratching.

If they are young kittens right now, then its the perfet time to start trimming their nails. I have 3 cats, and with the exception of the one who was wild when we got him, they let me trim their nails just fine. I started cutting them when they were just babies, and they sit through it fine even now as adults. You can buy a special nail trimmer for cats, but I have found that a normal toe nail clipper works best. Don't cut them way down, you could cut the blood vessel in their toes, but its safe to cut at the part were the nail starts to curve. That way they are straight like a dogs nails, and usually cannot reach too far out when the cat extends them (the nails). Just in case you ever would cut down too far, it does bleed a lot, so keep either styptic powder handy (can be gotten at a pet store) or in a pinch flour works, just pack it into the nail. Many places like Petco also will trip a cats nails for around 10 bucks, but that can get expensive if you want them cut every couple of weeks. As for the hurting more and taking longer to heal..the other people have got that right on...its the germs from the litter box that is on their nails that causes all the problems.

They hurt more because when they scratch you the scratch is automatically infected since they dig around in the litter box and then go over to you and scratch you... my advice is to trim their nails so they arent so pointy or to get these new caps that you glue on to their claw... or declaw them... up to you there are a few ways you can go to quit them from scratching you =) Good luck!! O and for your scratches use neosporin (misspelled) or rubbing alcohol and cover with a bandaid =)

in case you opt for both a puppy and a kitten get them at the same time. doggies are a lot extra aggressive and may want to damage a small kitten at the same time as taking section in. So make positive you get a small puppy or a huge kitten, or a totally grown youthful cat that likes canines might want to be perfect. maximum older cats do no longer tolerate canines until eventually you'll discover one which grew up with a canines. so a lengthy way as vaccinations, the safeguard tutor you a thanks to entice close which of them are required and probable may have already given them before they are going to launch an animal. it truly is how that is the position I stay. in addition they neuter or spay them. so that you received't might want to fret about that. at the same time as they have their initial vaccinations, in the experience that your cat will be indoor that is not had to get annual vaccinations, a booster each few years is all it truly is significant. canines are required to have rabies vaccinations each year or they received't furnish you with a license. Cats do no longer want to be approved the position i'm. no longer understanding your region i do no longer know even if it truly is a similar the position you stay. you could examine with the safeguard for all of your unanswered questions think ofyou've got. It it imposssible to wager what the fee for both might want to be. because almost each state has distinct criteria. the decision of having both a kitten and a puppy is yours, cats are customarily no artwork in any respect. Feed them, keep the clutter field sparkling, get it some toys, and promises them love and interest. canines require a lot extra, you would possibly want to stroll the canines quite a few situations an afternoon supply them baths once per week or they scent undesirable. they are going to bark and cry highly at the same time as left on my own as doggies and some canines searching on breed might want to chew you infant. some canines will snap at a baby if damage or infant is close to nutrition at the same time as canines is ingesting. wish this allows on identifying.

Just like someone else mentioned, keep their nails trimmed and you should be ok and not get scratched so much, if at all. As for why they hurt more...the litter box...plain and simple.
As with any cut, clean it with soap and water as soon as it happens and then an antibiotic ointment should do the trick!

When you play with the cats put gloves on or wrap a bed sheet or towl around your hand. Use old gloves, sheets, and towls. They will evntually rip and make shure when you go to the vet they clip your cats nails to make them less sharp and shorter.

Just think about it, what do they do with their claws,,,,,, dig in their poop box..... Plain and simple. I just scrub my kids scratches with a soapy wash cloth and put on some anti biotic cream it heals really fast like the next day. If you dont like the claws you will have to have them removed.
