All the things you can do, checking in the dark, straddling, looking at only one card, and other silly stunts have their time and place. The purpose is to take your opponent off their A game. Checking in the dark can confuse an opponent, as you are giving up your positional advantage and your option to bet. There are any number of reasons why you might do this, and your opponent has to guess why. Are you so strong, it doesn't matter? Are you just a maniac gambler? Who knows.
Like anything else in poker, you don't want to over use something. But if once or twice in a session you did this, it probably wouldn't hurt you. Sometimes this technique can be used to prompt a player in a tournament that you don't intend to create a side pot when one player is all in.
So I'd say the answer to your question is, it could be a good strategy occasionally.

I do it a lot when I am in a blind and first to act before the flop.
I like to think it keeps my blind hand open to many possibilties other than maybe a big pocket pair.
Of course many times I would raise out of the blind with said big PP. But if I limp or just call a raise from the small or big blind and I am first to act... I will quickly check in the dark and watch my oppenent watch the flop.

way way dumb. the very best strategy in poker is to act last. to check in the dark means you are the big blind.....if you have 2 aces you can slow play but you need to trim the field. if you have 2 deuses or suited connectors you need callers for correct odds.

It can be a good strategy sometimes, to destabilize your opponent. By checking in the dark, your opponent have no idea where to stand.
Take care

It's usually not a good idea to give up your opportunity to make a play before you see the next card, but I guess in extreme cases it can work well.
