I usually get in-grown hairs in the bikini area when I remove hair. I use nair. Some of the in-grown hairs, once grown in left black marks. Does anyone have any resolutions?

ALWAYS exfoliate first..I suggest waxing or shaving everyday followed by using BIKINI ZONE ( it is available at Wal-Mart , Walgreens, or any general store ) If you want to use a depilatory ( hair remover cream ) I would suggest surgi-cream..the best thing to do to avoid the bumps and ingrown hairs is to use Bikini Zone EVERY DAY whether you shave (remove hair) or not, it not only prevents ingrown hairs and bumps, but also causes the pain with the ingrown hair to go away almost immediately! Also be sure you are moisturizing the area properly! It is a MUST HAVE!

I heard that if you use witch hazel before you shave or nair that it will prevent ingrown hairs. Witch hazel is just a liquid that they sell in drugstores. You don't need a prescription. You can also use it to remove make up and to make your face smoother. To get rid of the ingrown hairs, use a cotton ball and dap it along your bikini line. Also, nair isn't the best thing to use. I mean it's better than shaving, but if you have thick hair it does the same thing as shaving, it just removes the part above the skin.

Exfoliate. It will keep the skin soft so that the hairs can grow out rather than get stuck under the skin. You can also buy several different kinds of lotions and gels to apply to the area to keep away ingrown hairs. A great one is the Skin Doctors Ingrow Go Solution. It really works, and it starts from $18 (Aust) a bottle, which lasts a long time.
You can also just use a basic moisturiser after exfoliating.

use wax strips - there are some really simple to use ones by sally hansen. no messy melted wax, just a plastic-like strip that you warm with your hands, apply, and pull off. you get used to the pain pretty quickly if you do it fast. the more you do it, the less hair growth you'll have and the hair that does come back will be softer and easier to remove.

when you remove the whole hair it takes longer to grow back, too. i have had NO ingrowns since i started doing this.

Next time you shave, exfoliate first. This should prevent it from happening again.
