I know this does not relate to your question. But you may want to also look into hand fed baby Cockatiels they usually run about $50. But it is worth it. I have had them in the past. The best thing is they are more loving having already been socialized. When we had them they were easier to train to talk. They really do have a high vocabulary. It is just taking the time. My father had one and he taught him to whistle the Marine Corp Hymn. Just some advice. Look in your newpaper that is where they are usually located.

Do not get a bird from a pet store. You need to go to a bird breeder. Get one that is handfed, it will make it very tame. Also, make sure it is not too young. And Cockatiel's are usually not over about $150, and if you are really worried about getting a bird for cheap because you can't afford a quality, healthy bird then you can't afford to keep a bird.

Kevin I have answered other questions for you. You need to say where in the world you are to get a usefull answer. I am in Australia and tiels here can be purchased best from known breeders for about $AUD18.00 In The USA they are ridiculously priced at $US100 or so . So you see its difficult to give you a good guiding answer. Join cockatielbreeders GROUPS on MSN tell them where you live and ask who has tiels for sale in your area. there are many there who will respond to your needs

Obtaining a bird from a reputable breeder usually will be cheaper than a retail store.

I prefer hand-raised cocketiel babies - I would first locate a local bird club - that will locate local breeders or rescue agency for birds.

Pretty much any pet stores should carry them, so yup. No worries. But I'd reccomend breeders :)
