Sure I've added it to chili and to tavern/loosemeats. Just adds a bit of flavor, especially darker beer. Very common to use it, just as it is common to use wine in cooking. If you're worried about the alcohol, don't be. Most, if not all, is cooked away due to the heat.

Oh yeah, it's totally normal! I always dump a beer in my chili. Don't worry, it'll cook off. And to be quite honest, you can't really taste anything. I use cheap watery American beer for it. I dunno why, it's just the way I've always made chili.
For a good extra kick, get a bottle of spicy bloody mary mix and toss that in for the tomato juice. The thicker mix you can find, the better. Red Eye is good.

Yes, beer is used for cooking in all kinds of things, especially with meats. Beer acts as a tendorizer. The alcohol cooks out of it. The same works with tequila.

Chili is one of those things that there are hundreds of ways to make it and thousands of added things that change the flavor to the taste of the people eating it, some of the wildest things I have heard of being put into chili are.... Rubarb, Pinapple, Cod, Shrimp, Oreos, peanut butter, bananas, oranges, peaches, horseradish, ect. I had to try the peanut butter in a small batch just to see what it tasted like and it really wasn't too bad, but if you ask me, chili is what ever you like best so if you like rubarb in your chili bon-appatete.

I have before, but I find that it thins out the chili too much.....unless you let it simmer until it's all evaporated......but that's just a preference, I like a "stew" like consistancy to my chili......and then there is the matter of adding beans or not......geez, chili is like salsa, there are as many chili recipes as there are people to make it..............Kinda a personal signature touch that every cook that makes it different as snowflakes are...

yes but you don't have to use it
if you don't like beer then don't use it
it only adds flavor so you can omit it if you like
