I have a bunch of various seashells that I've been given and some collected on vacations, etc... Some are pretty large (5 inches or so), others are as small as an inch. I have about 35 of them and I'd like to display them, but I have no clue how to do it. What are some interesting ways of incporporating them into a room? I tried just laying them all out on a dresser but it didn't look right. I would really appreciate some advice.

My daughters room was an under the sea theme, and she had a large collection of sea shells. The large flat ones she would use to hold potpourri or set a candle in it. We took a large fish netting and hot glued shells on to it in different areas and then draped the netting over the curtains. Also took a shadow box form and put some sand in it and placed the prettiest shells in it. Also can attach shells to picture and mirror frames. There are also empty ginger jar forms that are lamps that you can fill the base with the shells. Also pretty jars filled with shells look nice.

A shadow box on the wall perhaps? I use small glass jars that I've purchased from Ikea to display smaller shells, but the larger ones that you have might look nice mounted in a shadow box. You could include a small scrapboard type label that notes where you found the shell.

Also, I've seen antique wooden "typeset" boxes hung on walls with shells and other found objects in each space. This type of box could also be used on top of a coffee table if covered with a piece of plate glass. I'm trying to find a link to depict what I'm referring to, but no luck. If the concept interests you, I'd just head to a local antique store and describe the box as, "The thing that was used to store the letters for an old printing press," and I'm sure they'll know what you mean.

Good luck!

I have a fairly large seashell collection from my Grandparents that they collected in the 1920's in Florida and I have had the same problem with them.

I had a large spoon display cabinet. It is about 16" x 22" with a glass framed door. It's about 4 inches deep and velvet lined.

I layed my shells all in it in a nice arrangement closed the glass door and placed it on my coffee table. This keeps them from getting dusty.

I believe you could get shadow boxes and do this same thing.
Try a craft store that sells picture frames of all sizes.

Good Luck.

I found a lamp that had a clear base that could be opened. I think you can find them at Hobby lobby (or any big craft store) or even at WalMart. It looks really pretty all filled with shells. Another idea is to take fishing line and super glue them along the line, then hang it around the ceiling, near a window, as a beaded doorway...Good luck!

If your really handy with some tools you could build a opened ended square (think deep coffee table) add some legs to it and find an old 4 paned window that fits on top of this and screw it onto box and then fill with sand and the sea shells (before you screw the window on top) ! I saw this in a consignment store and I just loved it!

glue them onto the wall and put wooden frames around them. paint the frames whatever color compliments the walls. take the glass out of the frames, just use the frames themselves. you can use a variety of old second hand frames (very cheap at flea markets), paint them all the same color to unite them. the larger shells could each have their own frame , the smaller ones you could group into 2, 3, or 4 per frame. if you have track lighting, it would really highlight them nicely.

small seashells in a clear glass vase or decrotive drinking glass would be very nice and you wouldnt have to woory about losing them. bigger ones might be nice displayed in the bathroom.
