Isn't it supposed to be getting to know someone? What is sitting in the dark doing for you this new experience?

Sometimes people pick movies, because they can watch the show, hold hands, and *gasp*...make out! The main thing is probably that they want to have a little something to talk about over dinner (if you do the dinner and a movie thing). First dates can be a more uncomfortable experience for some than others and this is a safe way to go about it for many.

well some first date i have been on have been with people i was friends with. So we are now going out to see how we like each others company alone. Also you can talk after the movie and get really good insight into someone's beliefs history. Maybe something in the movie reminds them of a story. The movie is just a catalyst to many other conversations

Since you don't know them that well it sort of makes the silence comfortable. You can watch the movie and feel like you have something to talk about the next time you see them. Besides you get to know the person over the course of the relationship not just on the first date.

Actually a movie is not a good place to go on a first date, you cant really talk and get to know each other better, go to a nice coffee house where at least your face to face and can talk, or out for a nice meal or drinks, that is if your legal to be drinking,

Going to the movies is a good way to be around each other, with out the awkwardness of having to find things to say. And the movies is usually followed up by dinner, where you can get to know each other.

I think its for just getting used to being in each others presence. But i have to say you have a good point. If you do go to the movies watch a scary one for you can cuddle!

after the movies when you go to dinner then it's a conversation starter, or if your a teen or in high school you don't go to the movies to watch whats on the screen, if you catch my drift, and it's also a very classic date, not much effort in putting it together. its also great to find out what your date is into, like blood gory, romance, comedy,.

I agree; it is a really bad choice. A walk in the park or lunch is better. First dates should be short; if you ask someone to go to a park clean-up day with you and he/she turns out to be really bad, you are stuck for 8 hours.

Because men need help with date ideas and they think it is a good date. Tell him you will plan the date.
