We all know the format wars has kicked off, Blu-ray, HD DVD. many people praise the blu-rays capacity but high price, saying the HD DVD is cheaper... BUT have you ever actually looked in online stores actually selling these next gen formats, what you will find is that blu-ray isn't as expensive as you think. http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/NAVMAIN/5-/RegionHome.html compare these prices to the HD DVD and youle see thers only a few pounds between them

ps3 supoting blu-ray
xbox 360 supporting HD DVD
(BY THE WAY IF YOU ADD UP THE COST OF A HD DVD DRIVE, WIRLES ADAPTER, 3! 20G [because ps3 is 60g] HARD DRIVES THE PRICE IS A LOT MORE THAN PS3 WHICH HAS ALL THESE FEATURES BUILT IN)

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS.

I honestly think that Blu Ray will win.
1) the format is stronger in regards to security, and has way more storage space than HD DVD and thus has more potential in regards to higher resolution movies, DVD extras, and of course just being used as a back up disk.
2) Although HD DVD is cheaper, Blu Ray is not dramatically more expensive and given everything it has to offer it is worth the price.
3) Support, HD DVD has very little movie support compared to Blu Ray. Being that there is very little exclusive titles on HD DVD compared to Blu Ray. Most major movie companies produce for both, however, being that companies like Sony, Disney, and Lionsgate are exclusive to Blu Ray..that is a huge advantage for the coming years. Whoeever George Lucas (even though it'll take him 20 years to decide) decides to support will also be a major factor.
4) Although the typical blu ray player is much more expensive than the hd dvd player. The PS3 is around the same price and doubles as a gaming machine. Now the x-box 360 can be turned into an HD dvd player for cheap...$200..However, not every xbox 360 owner will care for it. PS3 owners..are somewhat "forced" to own a blu ray player...however, in doing so..the mindset is "hey..i'm stuck with a bluray player..might as well try some movies out"..I being one of them tried it out..and once you watch a movie in HD (regardless if its blu ray or HD DVD)..you will want to buy more and more.
Conclusion: I think Blu Ray will win as long as their current supporters for movies do not back out on them, and their prices remaining relatively competitive. The movie line up for Blu Ray far exceeds that of HD DVD, and the potential for Blu Ray in regards to storage (which is used for everything)..is also much greater. HD DVD may go triple layer to match blu ray..but if blu ray goes triple layer that's 200gb vs 50 gb. huge difference.

blu ray - high price??? look around.. you can get them for the saame as the dvd version... and.. hd dvds are out now!??? i mean have you seen the lineup for hd dvd?? nothing for like a year... now all the studios are realesing everything on blu ray.. but wait! you can get u571 on hd dvd.. and...HDScape HD DVD Sampler... thats about it for a year... hope blu ray wins, good quality, new and holds lots.. i mean with a bit of research they could fit a good 250gb in one! and have you seen those horrible burgandy cases for hd dvd?? ewww.. cos thatll look good in my living room lol

and i agree with the price of blu ray on play.com.. when dvds first came out they were much more than that! only £17 for true hd and something fresh...

also the xbox 360 dosnt even have a hdmi cable yet, and with films, that really notices!
