No. Idolatry is worshiping a graven image (but you are actually probably unwittingly doing this if you are Christian).

That is an excellent question...

1 Corinthians Chapter 8 deals with this exact question

"So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols (any God that isn't Jehovah, or the Judeo-Christian God).....We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one. For even if there are so called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords")....

I'm not going to type the whole thing but the point is that Allah has no power and nothing magical happens when that meat is prayed over before slaughter so feel free to eat the meat, but if you read the rest of the chapter you'll see that it's also important to make sure that your freedom doesnt' become a stumbling block to someone who has a weak conscience and doesn't have the same knowledge as you about eating the halal.

I love halal meat. I was not aware it "is prayed over in Islamic prayer before slaughter."

If a christian does not know what halal meat is, and is also not convicted by his conscious, then eating it is not sin (idolatry). A christian always gives thanks before eating, so whatever thing (ungodly/demonic) that might be there is chased away by prayer. The food/meal is cleansed and purified by prayer of thanksgiving.

However, if a christian knows (as you have told me now) what halal meat is - and still continue to eat it, to him who eats, it is sin.

For the record, I will never eat halal meat again!!! Especially if I know it is halal. I am sure that goes for all the halal food......

Very, very odd question.

As a Christian, I don't view islam as a valid or true religion (as muslims also don't view Christians as a true religion). Therefore, an islamic "prayer" holds nothing in my value system. It then follows that the "halal meat" is nothing but "meat".

So, nope...and most certainly not "idolatry".

Yaks (pbut).

Elgamma described it best, it is the way the meat is slaughtered.

All my food is sanctified by prayer to Almighty God in the name of Jesus Christ and therefore is "purified" and blessed for consumption. The name of Jesus is above all names and therefore cleanses anything previously said or done.
