Depends on your budget and tastes. I born and raised in Hoffman Estates. Here's a small list:
Americana: tie: Claim Jumper's (59 and Higgins): Great atmosphere, great food, very nice.
Cheesecake Factory, quality food and service, great loaction.

Chinese: Yu's Mandarin just East of Golf and Roselle. Get the noodle show if your on a date, takes 20 min. but they prepare fresh noodles for you and everyone gets to watch the process.

Japanese Hibatchi: Yue Sun Steakhouse Wooddale, IL. On Irving Park Rd. & Prospect Ave., about $25-35 per meal, but you get a show, a full meal, and on your birthday a free meal, an your picture taken and stapled to the wall. Tell Shirley and Cindy, "hi!" from Richard.

Sushi: depends on your mood: upscale Bistro Wasabi, Algonquin and Huntington Rd. Hoffman Estates? or Inverness? very modern, great date restaurant/ or Sushi Station, in strip mall in front of Sam's club on Algonquin Rd. in Rolling Meadows, like the train system but FAR more sanitary and faster. Price is by the color of the plate the dish is on, cheaper than 20 per person at other places.

Pizza: Lou Malnati's: corner of Schaumburg and Roselle rds. in Schaumburg, excellent summer date place, can walk across the street (Roselle) to park area with fountains and get ice crream dessert at oberweiss.

German: Fritzl's, on Rand rd. Great homemade everything. Had our Wedding reception there.

Polish: Pol Bistro, Barrington Rd. Schaumburg, next to Pep Boys. Sit anywhere, feels like home land.

Ribs: The Texan, on Algonquin rd. in Cary, over 100 different hot sauses. and Green river soda on tap!

I could go on for hours, e-mail me if you have specific questions, I love the burbs!

I like the Giordanos chain. They are rated best by the Chicago Tribune and New York Times.

But you also have Medieval Times in Schaumberg for show.

There is also a Shaws Crab House in Schaumberg with great food.

If you want classy, you can't get classier than Cafe LaCave in Desplaines.

for fun dining I prefer Portillos. great surroundings and I can't stay away from the Beefs. The first time I went I ordered the cheeseburger with fries. I usually don't fininsh anything I eat. However, I was done in about 10 minutes and didn't even realize I ate everything. Now I am hooked on their double dip beef with mozza cheese and fry. uhmmmmm.

Wow... where to start..... Well there is Sweet Tomatoes which is a fun casual place to go to in Schamburg. A slightly more upscale place, Bahama Breeze, is also in Schamburg. If you want really classy, go to Catch 35 in downtown Naperville... they have GREAT fish. Or.... If you want Oriental, the Thai Lotus or Le Siam, both in Naperville are FABULOUS!
Why????
Sweet Tomatoes- Fun buffet type, lots of choices, get to choose own portions, really great pasta, soup, and dessert
Bahama Breeze- Jamaican type flavors in American classics (their flat bread pizza..... yum)
Catch 35- All of their fish is good, (esp. creole salmon) but their mashed potatoes are to DIE for
Thai Lotus- Amazing Chicken Satay and Pad Thai
Le Siam- Fantabulous Panang Curry and Green Curry
