I am a h1b visa older. My son and wife came to US thru H4. My son is around 18 months old now. My wife has SSN since she was working in US in h1b status. Now my wife and son are in H4 visa status. My son doesn't have SSN since he born outside of US. He is in US now. Do i need to apply SSN for my son ?

not because he is not going to work...The only thing you need for him is all the legal paper that show his status here...Don't need a SS# not even if is been asked at any place...Like school etc...Just his status papers he will need He is not working here yet, too young is what I meant to say...If somebody question about him not having a SS# You won't have a problem if you give a copy only never originals of his status here...And that the parents are working here legally got it? To entrance the US not he don't need it...He only needs his visa that apply to him...

you wil need a TIN number to apply for tax benefits.
he won't get an SSN, but he will get the tax id number.
apply for it soon because you will need it when you file your taxes.it takes 2 weeks to get it atleast.
