That's like asking if you'd rather be shot with a .38 or a .357 Mag. You may as well be asking if it is safer for a dopey white guy to wear a racist t-shirt in Compton or the Bronx.

Stay in school. Avoid the recruiter. He will lie to you. He is not your friend.

The numbers say Iraq. Most of the US military are non-combat MOSs (Military Occupational Specialties). One in nine or ten is a shooter. If you're a Fobbit (someone who spends all their time on a Forward Operating Base), you're not under that much danger. If you spend much time outside the wire, you'd better be an adrenaline junkie. If you're in the Green Zone in Baghdad, you only really hear other people's misfortune in the distance. In Afghanistan, there's a higher ratio of shooters, and few enclaves like the massive Green Zone in which to hide.

If you are in the military or are thinking of joining, it doesn't matter what is safer because when you sign up, you sign up to serve your country and possibly die for your country, so it doesn't matter if you are in Iraq, Afghanistan or somewhere else!

You have a higher chance of being shot walking the streets of Washington, D.C. than anyplace in Iraq OR Afghanistan.

I would think Afghanistan....they seem to be under more control there than in Iraq.
