From a Buddhist (atheist) perspective... people are people first, so if your approach to life isn't altruistic, then all or most activities you engage in, whether they're religious or not aren't going to be altruistic. Then you have people who simply don't understand the wider world. Christianity supports dualistic thinking via their own philosophy of "one true religion and if you don't believe you're going to hell" and even altruistic people within that religion think that their religion is perfect and perfect for everybody, when that is clearly not a logical approach. Not all minds understand nor believe everything the same way, therefore no one approach is best for everybody... and unfortunately, people who approach life with that concept do so by trying to infiltrate politics in order to spread the concept further, and since it's NOT for everybody, it generates much aggression and suffering.
Perhaps someday, all will see things as many Buddhists understand it: Not everybody can understand everything the same way and everybody simply wants to be happy and so they should be given leave to find that happiness in whatever way works for them, as LONG AS it isn't generating harm or suffering for others.

A lot of Christians go a bit overboard and almost hit other people over the head with the Bible. This is not how it's supposed to be. We, as Christians, are supposed to love everyone, no matter what their religion is, according to the Bible. But still, I don't think it's totally Christianity that has gone awry, but society in general.
We need to be fighting AIDS and trying to preserve the rainforest, rather than fighting for nativity scenes in the mall. Religion is a personal thing, and sometimes we really need to keep it personal and focus on our entire community, not just our ministries.

After reading some of the other answers, I have to say, I've heard it all before, over and over. Christianity is not brainwashing and NO we do no have to conform to the world. The Bible says we have to live in the world but we do not have to be like the world. You don't have to be a Christian to survive in this country - we are a free nation for everyone to be able to worship as they please but I think there are some things that have gotten out of hand. I believe that this country was founded on a creator and even though we are to have separation of church in state, that doesn't mean people shouldn't be allowed to pray or read their Bible in any public place, government or otherwise. If you go to another country, that is not considered a Christian country, then you have to bow to their ways. You aren't allowed to worship as we do here. Be grateful that you live in a country where we are allowed the freedom to worship in God's house. The Bible is where your answers are found. Read it, treasure it, meditate on it and ask God for answers. He's alot better at answering then I am or anyone else

you are basing all this on what you see from churches....but there are more Christians that don't attend that do attend. my opinion...the church is corrupt. just as the bible says. not that religion or Christianity is corrupt...just the church.
just because a guy dresses up and calls himself a preacher doesn't mean he is a preacher. does every teacher teach? no. does every cop up hold the law? no. does every judge follow the laws on the books? no.
so one cannot judge the masses by a few loose screws nor by their actions. Lucifer is good at blinding those that stand inside a lie.
remember that guy who held the door for you last? bet he was a christian yet he never pushed himself on you....he just did a nice act towards you instead.

Most of the "Christian principles" by which many people try to live are common to many religions. This is not surprising, as these principles derive from evolution, which applies to societies as well as to species: a society which lives by sound principles will survive preferably to one that does not.

Many who proclaim Christianity are innocent victims of the master deceiver. We must encourage everyone to find Truth in the Word and receive strength and protection in the Holy Spirit.

God word does not need defending. It is what it is. It is always on the offense with others fighting against it. The problem is half the Christians live under the law still when God clearly wants us to live under grace. Those who are under the law will judge, condemn and criticize. That is where you get the hate from. Those that live under the grace of God, love with the love of God, are forgiving and very tolerant of others and their sins, without letting it effect their personal beliefs and way of living.

And Elaborately:
If you get Saved, you become a Child of GOD.
To become a Christian after that, you have to do alot of Things DILIGENTLY.
When your a Child of GOD (not Walking in Holiness) you will not Walk and Talk like Jesus did--unless your Fakeing it (without the Power that comes with Walking in Holiness).
And, you will need to Defend yourself Physically if Attacked.
When your a Child of GOD and you do the things Diligently and start Walking in Holiness for Real, YOU WILL start Walking and Talking like Jesus did For Real, and the Power will Accompany You and "No man will Take your Life" cause the Angels will be Powerfull around you, cause your Walking in Holiness.
As a Child of GOD, your either a "Christian" for Real (Diligence in Things of GOD) or your Fakeing it, whether you know it or not.
Ditto.............and hope this helps................

The path is narrow to true enlightenment and wisdom. Very few will ever 'get it'. Christians are human......the rule applies for those who call themselves Christian....many don't have a clue.Goes for any one who claims to be anything...some know themselves well enough to know if they really are or not and some wish to fool themselves and others.

All I can say is if Jesus was actually physically around, Christians might be a lot different.
