Ask him out then. Even if he says no you will feel better for at least knowing the answer. If you don't ask you will always wonder.

ok in case you think of you prefer to invite him out lower back. then do it. My first date become like yours. ask him out! what's taking you soooo long?! find some mutual friends and go out in a small group, that way you two aren't so nervous on this first date.
