Catnip is a plant, it grows wild sometimes. Oh, and i also wanted to say that i read an article in a cat magazine, (with all the info gathered by vets) and catnip is not completely like a drug. Yes, it does get your cat high, but it has no long-lasting effects. Meaning, that the cat may b drugged up at the time, but it really doesn't hurt him or her in any way. A little while after the cat has had the catnip, it is exactly the same as if u never gave it to him. So, according to the vets in the article, catnip is perfectly safe for your cat as long as the cat is under your supervision.

Nepeta cataria (Catnip, True Catnip, Catmint or Field Balm) is a 50–100 cm tall herb resembling mint in appearance, with greyish-green leaves; the flowers are white, finely spotted with purple. It has been introduced to many countries, and is now a widespread weed in some areas, including the United States. A lemon-scented cultivar, N. cataria 'Citriodora' looks exactly like true catnip, but has the scent of lemons, and can be used like Lemon balm.

Did you know that it's good for many human uses as well?

Definately a plant. We bought 2 last year, then watched one of the cats go nuts rolling all over it. The other cats ignored it completely. None of them go for any catnip toys we bring in the house!

This erect, shrubby, perennial plant, from 1 to 3 feet tall, is native to Eurasia but widely naturalized throughout the temperate zones. Can be found in hedgebanks, along roadsides, and in waste places. Leaves are heart-shaped, toothed, 1 to 3 inches long and downy, more so beneath the leaf than above and with a strong mint-pennyroyal aroma and a bitter camphorish flavor; 'white as a nep' is an old English expression referring to the pale color of the leaves. The stems are 4-sided (square) as is typical of members of the mint family. The bilabiate flowers are tubular, white to pale blue with crimson dots, appearing in dense, prickly, spike-like whorls. The calyx tube has 15 ribs (charact
