if eating very little (like 400 calories a day) will slow down your metabolism and may even make you gain weight, how come anorexics lose SOOO much weight?

anorexics usually exercise a lot while not eating anything. The only way you could gain weight by eating so little a day would be if you didn't do anything and just sat around all the time

Look at it this way if you want to only eat 400 calories a day for the rest of your life then sure you can look really skinny and sick but if you only eat 400 calories a day to lose weight then once you eat healthy your body won't be used to it and hold onto all the calories b/c it doesn't think it will get them again. Then you will gain more weight then you lost. If you want to lose that much weight then you need to speak to someone b/c it is not healthy and you could end up killing yourself. Eating healthy and exercising is the only way to be healthy and thin.

You might lose weight at first, after a while you will started to get really hungery and when you eat you will over eat and that will result it gaining more weight then when you first started, and its very unhealthy, you have to eat at least 1200-1500 for women 1500-1900- for men.

I don't know how they do it. My experience was I did gain weight while eating next to nothing. I couldn't figure it out, everyone kept saying I should be so thin as I ate like a bird, yet my weight spiralled up & up over the years. Only after switching to a mostly fruit & veggie eating style & exercize like mad did I finally begin to lose weight.

Because they're not taking in ANY calories. They're burning off their muscles first (Muscles weigh more than fat) then their fat. That's why they also become more lethargic and less physical. In all actuality, the best way to keep your excellent health is to eat a little bit constantly so you can raise your metabolism and be able to digest food faster and get rid of fat.

Because 400 calories a day isn't enough fuel to keep your body running. There isn't enough to run your normal body functions, let alone store anything, and so the body begins to compensate by breaking down muscle tissue and using it to nourish itself. Next it uses your bone marrow. Then, you die. Make sense?
