Live with it for awhile BEFORE you fill it up. Get the feel of the room and what you want the room to do for you. Sit back and look at the walls and the floor.
Don't do what a lot of people do and fill it with odds and ends and junk. Be sure that whatever you do makes your eyes feel good. Use it to your advantage to lift your spirits.

Have you thought about a small reading area? That works wonders to fill up space. Make sure you make the space for more than one person....

a quiet area, chair and light for reading, is great while the kids are doing other things. A computer area or a wet bar is another idea.

Get a papasan chair. They're these round chair things that are really comfortable. Maybe a mini fridge, those are awesome too.
