I think going with the same wood would be to much. Go with either a darker or lighter wood, maybe something a little less grainey or even tile. Hope this helps.

no you don't always have to go with the same wood but you do want to make sure they will go together not saying similar colors either, For example a nice light natural finish maple cabnet would look great with a nice red cherry color floor.
I would however suggest that you take a sample of what you think will look good home and see how you like it for a few days before commiting to it. You could also try taking a picture of a few flooring colors and cutting and pasting it to pictures of your room with the cabnets and seeing how the two woods go together.

I contrasting wood such as cherry is very good. Most people use the oak all the way and it makes the kitchen monotone

absolutely not! Consider something lighter or darker than the stain in your cabinets. Otherwise everything blends together and just looks like a LOT of the same.............
