Tractor Supply Co usually has some riding boots and helmets, and since it's a chain, there's usually one more nearby than anywhere else that will sell the boots. So Tractor Supply is usually the most convenient.

However, they usually don't have the biggest selection... they have a lot of work boots and (surprise) tractor supplies (!) but don't carry a whole lot of things for your horse. To truly have a good selection, you'll need to find a tack shop (tack is the generic term for just about anything you'd use for a horse... it's a horse supply store basically). Either look on the internet or in your phone book to find a tack shop nearby. It might be a good idea to call before going all the way there just to make sure they have what you're looking for (some tack shops only carry english stuff and some only carry western stuff).

If you know what style of boot you're looking for and know your size and stuff, you can save yourself the trip and buy them online... each boot maker has a website (Ariat, Devon Aire...), and there's some tack shop websites online where you can buy things: statelinetack.com or doversaddlery.com

I kinda recommend going to a tack shop rather than buying online... that way you get to see what they have and you can try it on and feel which ones you like best. Also, when I was looking for new boots, everything I found online was much more expensive than what I ended up paying when I went to the tack shop.

The most important part of a riding boot is the heel. You need to get a boot with a heel, usually 1" is recommended. It will keep your foot from slipping through the stirrup.

I bought a pair of "riding" boots from Walmart. They cost a fraction of the price, have a heel, and cover my ankle, just the same as a johdpur boot.

If you want a pair of tall boots, google (or yahoo) "Tack Shop". If you have a Petsmart/Stateline Tack or a Dover Saddlery in your area (USA), they are also a good place to go.

However, if you are going to your first lesson, any boot with a heel will work! You can invest in more equipment if you decide to continue riding!

Good luck! Have fun in your lesson! I love English riding!

you would be stunned what share tack shops there are in the city... in case you have discovered a lesson barn you would be beginning at, call them and ask the place the main suitable tack shop is. As for boots, it relies upon on which type you're taking... in case you plan to bypass with English, then i might stick to an English driving boot; boots are costly and you will no longer choose for to swap them whilst the Western boot is now no longer working for you. in the initiating, all you relatively need is a helmet and boots... you may development up your grant of outfits and different issues in time. i easily like Troxel helmets and Ariat boots. In time, you may get breeches or driving denims while you're taking Western, yet meanwhile thick leggings or denims will artwork.

It depends where you live. Is there a Pet's Mart in your area? They always have horse riding equipment, both for English and western riding. If you don't, then look on the Internet or in the yellow pages. OR you could just simply ask your trainer about it. I'm sure he or she would be glad to help. GOOD LUCK!

DON'T BUY UR BOOTS ON LINE!!! THEY MIGHT NOT FIT RIGHT, EVEN IF YOU KNOW YOUR SIZE!!! AND IF YOU BUY THEM ON LINE, MOST LIKELY YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO RETURN THEM.... AND THAT WOULD REALLY SUCK!
