BY pEOPLE, I'm sure you mean the opposite sex, err, someone your involved with or want to be involved with.
Some times bending the truth adds a mystique about someone or a certain aspect of who they are or what they are doing. On the flip side, it could also mean that they are doing something that they know that they shouldn't be doing and telling anti-truths is the only way for them to calm the inquiring person.
It depends. You have to find out what it is that you want. Remember there is no stupid question: just stupid answers. AND: if you don't want to know the answer don't ask the question.

Because for some humans telling the truth isn't so exiting and interesting like lying. When people lie, they kind of "protect" themselves. But it's easier to tell the truth. You don't have to remember your own words.

because the truth somtimes hurts other people and some people dont like to hurt others. on the other hand some people dont know the truth because they lie so much and facing it is too hard for them to handle.

Most people in the world don't know how to tell the truth. Maybe they like to lie because it sounds good to them. To make their life more interesting for you to like them. Mostly it's about being insecure about themseleves.
