I have a friend who is Muslim and has been telling me a lot about their faith. However he lives too far away to really guide me into the religion and has struck my curiosity. I now want to do some research and learning of my own but am not sure where to begin or how to go about doing so..can anyone help?

I feel bad for you, I really do. Please don't let the person, you call a friend, influence you to join this violent and hateful religion, by only telling you about the parts of it, that will seem attractive to you. I will provide you a couple links that will hopefully open your eyes a bit. Seriously read a bit about it, before you jump in head first, so to speak. Make sure you thoroughly understand what you are getting yourself into.

These will provide you with a place to start learning about Islam. Question your friend, about some of the things your read on these sites. Make him or any muslim explain these things to you, so that you can make an educated decision. I hope this has been some help to you.

Why would you join a religion that advocate the beating of a wife? Quran 4:34
"Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because God has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Surely God is high, supreme." (Dawood's version of the Koran, Quran, 4:34)
or "Prophet! Rouse the believers to wage war. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will subdue two hundred: if a hundred, they will subdue a thousand of the disbelievers: for these are a people without understanding." quran 8: 36, how to perform war against nonbelievers.

So you want to become a person with no civil rights or personal freedoms? Muslim women MUST obey every command given to them by their husband or any other male within his family. Women are less than second class citizens within Islam. They effectively are slaves. So become a Muslim and have a nice life!!
