Sometimes depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in our bodies and sometimes it occurs in response to stressful life events. Whatever the cause - the most important issue is that you seek help so that you do not have to live with these unpleasant feelings.

It is not necessary that you suffer with all these unpleasant feelings. Depression is a treatable condition that can be brought under control with medication, therapy or a combination of both. If you were a minor it would be important that you let your parent know how you have been feeling so they can assist you as you go through this difficult time. If they have trouble recognizing that you are depressed and feel that every body goes through this phase, ask them to at least get you evaluated by a mental health professional because you feel it is more serious than just a phase.

If your depression gets to the point that you feel like hurting yourself or are scared of what you might do, then you need to seek help immediately.

As for the starving, that is extremely unrecommended.
Start by eating less, taking some jogs with some music on, think of life without depression. You can do it. Don't starve yourself, please.

If you have a thyroid problem you should be seeing a doctor, as one of the symptoms that go along with a thyroid problem is depression.
Through blood work the doctor can determine what your thyroid levels are, and it can be regulated by medication. I have an under-active thyroid and it was through blood work that they found this out...once I was put on medication my metabolism increased and I started to lose weight (along with healthier eating.) Starving yourself or eating as little as possible is not the answer.

First of all. have you been to a doctor for your dianosis?

Next, what has been the time frame and amount of weight gained?

Are you taking any medication for a thyroid condition? If so, perhaps that might account for any weigth gain.

As a retired pyschologist often suggested that a client do some self education on any diagnosed condition so that there was a full understanding of the condtion. Then you can make a plan on how to get into the jeans that you want to.
