Let's go children of the fatherland,
The day of glory has arrived!
Against us tyranny's
Bloody flag is raised! (repeat)
In the countryside, do you hear
The roaring of these fierce soldiers?
They come right to our arms
To slit the throats of our sons, our friends!

Refrain

Grab your weapons, citizens!
Form your batallions!
Let us march! Let us march!
May impure blood
Water our fields!

This horde of slaves, traitors, plotting kings,
What do they want?
For whom these vile shackles,
These long-prepared irons? (repeat)
Frenchmen, for us, oh! what an insult!
What emotions that must excite!
It is us that they dare to consider
Returning to ancient slavery!

What! These foreign troops
Would make laws in our home!
What! These mercenary phalanxes
Would bring down our proud warriors! (repeat)
Good Lord! By chained hands
Our brows would bend beneath the yoke!
Vile despots would become
The masters of our fate!

Indeed it is! I wish this country would get out of its war state of thinking and try moving along a bit more with the world starting with its national anthem... some people are still new to air-conditioning, there is a constant number of strikes going on due to the narrow-mindedness of people towards new (and of course better) economical and political systems and a random person in a store-- or anywhere-- can still look at you like you're from a country ready to invade France... a cheer to the French for their food and stronger intellectual aspect than Anglo-Saxon countries, however, I think it's time to move on (especially from communism-- yes, there still is some communist parties in France) and modernize a bit! Not enough to lose it's historical charm; just enough to keep up, you know?

And the American national anthem is sung about the defense of a fort during the war of 1812, set to the tune of an old drinking song.

And the British anthem has a reference to defeating the Scots...
And I'm not even going to get into 'Deutschland über Alles'.

I'm afraid the lies of the French Revolution and the bloody murder it caused do make me sick whenever I see the Frech flag or hear their anthem. I love France but not the France of the Revolution.

Tyranny? Was there ever greater tyranny in France than the Reign of Terror?

Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité ??? All lies, damned lies, and the anthem - rousing emotionalism to switch off the brains of the masses and conceal the atrocities of the oligarchs.

Chill out, man! Yes, it's a "bloody" song, but it was sung by people coming from Marseilles up to Paris to help fight against the aristocracy. It didn't turn out the way it should have.

Actually, some French people wanted to change our National song, but I think it's just stupid. It's symbolic, that's all.

It's a song from the French Revolution, and no, it isn't sickening. It's about people uprising against tyrannical rulers in the spirit of liberty, something the French have much more of than you by the way...

Yeah a little bit, but its a song that originated out of a bloody, nasty war. What do you expect?
