I have a friend that swears she donated part of her kidney to her younger sister who had some renal complications around ~ 3 years old (ultimately it was a urethral malformation and not a renal insufficiency/failure problem but I don't think that matters). The donor was 14 years old at the time of "donation" and she claims that she has 1 and a half kidneys left. I cannot find ANYWHERE, that says that there is a such thing as a partial kidney donor. I am a doctor, prove me wrong. It is my understanding that the kidney will necrose upon partial removal as the majority of the kidney does not regenerate (only renal tubular epithelium).

You are correct...she either did or did not donate a complete. There are no partial kidney donations as the kidney and it's parenchyma (the cortex and renal collecting system) would fail, necrose and most likely be rejected. Besides, anatomically speaking, there is no way to connect a partial renal donation to make it viable. I'd really like to see someone prove you wrong. She may have a bifurcated system on one side and instead of being a donator, she herself had a partial nephrectomy for some obstructing process.

It is possible......BUT it has to have the deep tissue to filter the water and toxins through.

Donating a whole kidney would be better though. Because there are risk during the transplant that damage could happen to the kidney. You would have more working kidney then if you donated half.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Yes it is possible. I have heard of at least 3 cases. All of them were to children. Why would you think the person was lying - I am sure there is a scar.

My ex is a doc and thought he knew it all about things, only to later find he was mistaken.

There are always risks. Donating an organ should never be done without a clear and honest examination of the facts.

Partial kidney donation is not possible. The remainder will die/atrophy. They don't regenerate.
She was lied to or she's lying to you.
