being in nam, in the jungle. If you heard a squeak the formation wood blast away ratatatatatatatat rartatatatatata in case it was the veit cong dude. i had to survive in nam eating tree leaves and drinking rain water. nam was hard. did nam change me?

Sure, it changed all of us who were there. I once spent two hours watching a spider build and tend his web as the N. Vietnamese passed by approx. ten meters from me as they followed the trail south into S. V. Could not fire, too many of them and only three of us. Only survived those years by stealth. Yeah, was changed. Sure made me appreciative to have been born and bred American.
Some of us have had a difficult time dealing with our changing. Some never recovered from the effects of the change. My heart is soft for all who have given their time and endured the change, extending to this mess we are now in. God Bless all who have/are giving their innocence to freedom.

Yes, it most certainly did. War is hard, so many things that we take for granted here are not available. You learn to count on your unit for your survival. Now, you are back home and the habits you learned to survive are no longer needed. Its hard to put those once necessary skills away because they are no longer needed.
