I have model DSC-S40 and when I take a picture and someone is moving (ie. my 6 month old son's hand is waving) it will come out all blurry . Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks so much for any help that you can give.
Oh! Also the LCD is messed up too. Sometimes it just shows up as plain white but the pictures are fine once uploaded to the computer, I just can't see anything in the viewing window. This looks like a common problem w/ this model but if anyone has any info it would be appreciated. Thanks!

When a subject is moving it is more difficult to get a still picture. The best chance is to use a faster shutter speed.

One way to get a faster shutter speed is to go into the Menu and chose Multi-Burst Mode on your camera. This will take 3 quick pics in a row when you push the shutter button. This is good for kids photos! Also set the Multi-Burst timing to 1/30 to get the fastest pics.

If that is still not fast enough, you will have to go into Manual Mode and then set the shutter speed to something over 1/100 sec. (You will have to experiment. You may also have to increase the Aperture or Exposure Compensation or ISO to get the pics bright enough.)

As for ISO, higher ISO mimics more sensitive film (which was rated in ISO numbers) in film cameras. So raising the ISO setting gives a brighter pic, which tells the camera to shoot at faster speed (in Automatic modes). However, in digicams higher ISO can yield more "noise" which makes might make the pic look fuzzy or grainy. You will have to experiment. If you have lots of light in the pic, it will be ok. And prints show noise less than computer screens.

Also, make sure the camera is using Center Autofocus. This will focus only in the center of where you are pointing. The default is usually Multi-Autofocus, which can focus anywhere in the pic and may contribute the your blurry pics when someone moves.

Good Luck

you should adjust the sensitivity, just turn on program mode and switch to a higher ISO, for the screen, you should go to setup and turn off the backlight.
