I want to renew my subscription. My yahoo info shows my credit card as exp 07/2006 the new exp date is 07/2009. Why would I ask credit card information if it did not refer to my yahoo account

The credit card company or bank will issue a new card (using the same number as now, but with a new expiration date) unless your credit is bad. If a person has real bad credit a new card may not be issued.

Just call the card company. You may not want to do that, the expiration date is put on so that there is some control on credit cards. The card is good up to the expiration date and only effect new purchases.
The credit card company is good at giving you a new card if the old one is due to expire. The new card has the same information for the account, but the card is different. You should not change it, if the one in your possession is due to expire, call the credit card company and find out what happened to the replacement card.

In order to get a new expiration date, you will have to get your credit card renewed with the company which you are getting the credit card from.
