I came down with the stomach flu on Wed night (Valentine's Day) and was up all night. The next day I slept and drank sips of water (the throwing up had stopped, but the fever persisted.) On Friday I finally ate saltines and a dinner roll and drank seltzer too. Today I am STARVING but the thought of food makes me queezy. I drank snapple and tried to eat an english muffin, but I can't stand the texture in my mouth. Any thoughts on what I can do? White rice??? Pasta with no sauce? I am not sure, but I am hungry.

Start out easy. Try yogurt. Chicken noodle soup. scrambled or soft-boiled egg. You'll gradually feel better. Be sure to drink lots of clear liquids. Hope you feel better, soon!

Lord, yes. I caught a nasty gastrointestinal bug in my 6th month of pregnancy with my third child. This was soon after I had to have surgery during pregnancy to remove tumors from my ovaries as well, so every time I threw up I was so scared I'd tear the staples. I was throwing up blood by the time I made it to the hospital. (TMI, I know, but it was bad.) I was admitted and treated for dehydration, given probably the same meds as you were for the pain and nausea. We were really scared and it wasn't any fun. I also thought I had a high pain tolerance. It really threw me for a loop. I thought the stomach flu was worse than having surgery during pregnancy. Don't think you are a wimp for not coping better. Your body is busy making another human being - getting sick on top of creating this extra creature will take a lot out of you. I wasn't totally well until the baby arrived. Let your body get the rest it needs for yourself and your baby. You'll have your hands full very soon and you'll need the energy!

Well, after my lack of worldly knowledge led me to look up "butty" on wikipedia and found it to be a Brittish slang word for a sandwich, I decided to give you some suggestions.

I had my gallbladder taken out last August and must be very careful with what I eat. I refer to the chance of a bad reaction to eating as a crap shoot. LOL Anyhoo, my own guildeline to prevent stomach irritation when I'm hungry is that if a food pops into my head and sounds good, I'll prepare it. If it smells good cooking, then it reinforces my belief that I won't have a reaction. I have been wrong before, but it's infrequent enough that I stick to this guildeline.

Drink a BUNCH of WATER!!! It is miserable to have to be hospitalized due to dehydration. My mom went through that 2 weeks ago. It happens a lot easier than you'd think, too.

Stay away from grease (bacon? really?). Try things that are low in fat and easily digestible. Not too many complex carbs and starches. Oh, or bananas. They are specifically hard to digest (although very good for you when you're well. I, myself, am actually allergic to them, sot that's why I thought of them.).

When you have been off food even for a day, you should try to avoid solid food for another day or two after the symptoms are over. Start with small quantities of plain yogurt and baby food. Then try something soft, like a tomato - and chew it well. Reintroducing hard food immediately after a stomach flu will set you back. Take care.

My boyfriend got the same thing on Valentines day. He went to the emergency room and they told him to drink clear liquids and to eat white rice. They also gave him a prescription for an antibiotic. He had a temp of 102 and is feeling better today, but he stills feels weak.

Try some cup of noodle soup. It's very soothing. Also never underestimate the power of ginger ale.

I like dry toast when I feel bad. Or oatmeal.
