What is the most efficient way to fill an ice chest (cooler) with cans of beer and soda, along with the ice? I've always laid the cans flat at the bottom, cover with ice and repeat. I usually have 3 layers of both ice and cans. Is there another more efficient way to pack in more cans without diminishing coldness.

Stand the cans up on the bottom then a layer of ice then lay the cans down and another layer of ice. Depending on the size of your cooler will determine how much beer you get cold.

Add salt to the ice and water. Salt will allow the water to become colder than freezing temp without actually freezing. The water surrounds the cans and cools them quicker. An even quicker and more efficient cooling method is if the salinated water is cirrculating around the cans/bottles.

add a little cold water, to the bottom of the ice chest w/ some salt, then put your contents, then the ice. adding salt water will keep it colder, longer.

I honestly think you've got it down already. That's how we pack the cooler for vacation. We don't stack them end on end, they don't keep as cold that way.
