We've been to London dozens of times, and now we're interested in going to either Cornwall/Devon or Kent... or anywhere really! We'd love to be somewhere in the countryside and stay in a B&B, preferably within walking distance of a nice town. Sight-seeing things would be a bonus! What places have you been to that have been wonderful?

It's not a countryside retreat, but Bath is a beautiful and very romantic town with lots of lovely old streets and restaurants etc. Perfect for a quiet town break. Otherwise Salcombe in Devon is a small posh yaughting town, quite hilly with a big estuary and nice countryside for walking nearby. Should be lots of B&Bs there, and expensive yaughts (that doesn't look like I've spelled that right.. how do you spell yaught??) in the marina which all men love to drool over.

I would say Cornwall or Devon but that caveat of "within walking distance of a nice town" makes it a little tougher.

Consider Rock in Cornwall. It's within walking distance of Padstow; and if it wasn't for the grounded tanker and the beach being closed, I would suggest Lyme Bay near the Devon/Dorset border.

I agree with the above reader. Bath is pretty good and although considered a city its actually the size of a small town with lots of rivers, historic buildings , clean etc, all within beautiful countryside, a few minutes drive away from the town centre. Its like a sure bet.Of course in the end its not so critical where you are but how you are that makes it romantic! Enjoy!

Hi

Have a think about St Ives in Cornwall - lots of lovely eating places to spoil yourselves after walking the stunning coast path.
There is also a Tate Gallery .
Have to admit to always renting a holiday cottage when we have been but I am sure there would be good B&Bs.

Enjoy whatever you do
