After my pc has been running for a while, I cannot use the Start, Logoff sequence. If I do, it takes a very long time and when it gets to the start screen, the screen eventually goes blank. The only thing I can do at this point is to turn the power off, then on and reboot. Alternatively, I can do a ctl/alt/del and use the Windows Task Manger to logoff and I'm okay.

A friend says that he thinks it has to do with my using Norton. Anybody else run into this and found a solution? Thanks.

norton causes computers to slow down and it doesn't work as well as people think it does. when you get the desktop up, hit the start button and select run. type in msconfig, hit enter. now goto the startup tab and in the programs, take the check mark out of the norton program box. this will make it so it doesn't startup the next time you boot the system. now reboot the system and see how everthing works. if it works fine, then get rid of norton. if not, do the msconfig again and make sure the check isn't in the norton program box. also make sure norton isn't running at all. if still nothing working, i'd say there is a problem with explorer itself in which you'd need to run the system scan and check for bad system files. when you do this, make sure you have it set to automatically fix the problems.

I don't think it's Norton.

There are so many things it could be:

Did you close all programs before log-off? If not, Windows has to take the time to do this so they are closed properly before log-off.

Have you checked your power options?
