I live in Las Vegas and since last year I have been going to Lake Mead to go fishing. Within the last couple of months it seems that the fish are hibarnating!!! I always catch at least one fish, but last week I didn't even catch one, what is happening???

fish do not "hibernate":

they simply slow their metabolism down to almost nothing, which means they do not need to eat near as much as in summer months.also the fish suspend which makes them hard to catch.this is a result of the weather or water conditions.

That's probably not the reason you can't find any fish this time of year where you're at. The population numbers might be down this time of year, or the fish move to another part of the lake depending on the season. Some lakes develop thermal stratification (look up LIMNOLOGY on the internet) during the summer; there is a water density separation between the colder deep water and the warmer water that's near the surface. The deep water doesn't hold much oxygen, and the fish can't live down there, but there is oxygen in the top layer, so the fish are easier to catch. In the winter, that separation disappears, and the water is all mixed with oxygen, and then the fish can go down deeper. Every lake is not like that, however.
Ask local bait & tackle shop operators what they know about the fishing situation for Lake Mead. I bet they would know.

Fish don't hibernate, but as the water cools their metabolism slows so they don't eat as much. Depending on species you may need to fish deeper using lighter line and smaller baits and fish slower. I can't wait until it warms up a little, it's to cold now to think about putting the boat in the water.

most fish can not even sleep or stay still without dieing. maybe overfishing and the lake not being restocked in the winter are a cause for you not catching fish.
