I have a parakeet that I don't want anymore, but I want to sell it to a pet store instead of just giving it away. Where can I sell my pet parakeet?

I didn't buy the parakeet because I thought it would be cool. My uncle found it, and it needed a home, so I said that I would take care of it until I could find it a home, but I haven't found a home, and I don't want it because it bites! And, I misphrased my question. I don't need to sell it for $. I'm not looking for money, I just want it to have a good home, and right now, none of my friends wants it! Ok, if you think it's sad that I don't want it anymore, then tell me how to make it stop biting!

Wow thats really sad that you don't want the little guy anymore.
You can't sell it back to a petstore because:
1. the pet store only sells young, tame, and usually handfed birds.
2. they don't know the history of the bird or its behaviour (like its parents didn't like people or otherbirds or it the bids once had an illness).
3. the pet store only sells birds that the STORE breeds so that they know the history of the birds.
The kindest thing to do for your bids is to find a friend or relative that would like your bird as a pet so you can gove them the cage and the bird too.

These are all pretty great answers, I agree with most all of them. A decent clean store will not purchase from anyone but an established breeder. And, as kramor22 said, there are too many already, and it is extremely hard to shift a bird to a new home, unlike a dog or cat who accepts new people easier. I too, do the home refuge, and these guys tend to bond to one person. There are two ways of thinking; one is to advertise, and ask around, but be selective, please, a kid will not give it the time and care it needs unless it has a parent very dedicated. It will just get given away again. Some say a free bird is not good, as the person they give it to has the mindset that they didnt spend anything anyway,so no biggee if they cant keep it either, thus starting a bad cycle for the poor little guy. But selling can be hard. Maybe offer in an ad to sell for $20, including the cage, food, toys, etc. that way there is SOME investment at least, then please be selective. They love interaction, and ask how many hours they can spend with it, ask about other animals in house.. dont place with a cat or dog if you can possibly help it. Generally birds are not good gifts, they need to bond to the person, but exceptions can be made. I have heard that there are organizations to put animals with homebound people, elderly, etc, and they might take it free, and it would get a person there all the time to love it. I know sometimes life dictates we cannot keep our critters no matter what we hope, but please, if its just that you are tired of it... dont get another pet for awhile. Take care.

I can't believe you! My friend did the same thing, got a parakeet because she saw mine, went and got one, then gave it away, to a traveling salesman that stopped by the house. I have had 3 parakeets, one was rescued from an old man who had to go into a nursing home. I kept them until they died of old age, now have a cockatiel, and this is his 4th home. He will be here with me, until he dies or I do. You should never get a pet of anykind unless you are dedicated to caring for that pet, until it's life is over. I can't believe you would even think of giving the little thing away, or selling it, but then again, maybe it would be better off in a new home. At least maybe it would get someone who loved it and cared for it.

It's a shame that people get pets and then discard the pets like they are pieces of furniture.
This is one of the reasons that I have a refuge that I finance myself. I take in these poor little creatures, nurse them back to health and placing them into good homes.
How old is the parakeet and where are you located? I don't know of any pet store that would buy the bird, but most of them would take it and then resell it to who knows.
See if you can find a good friend that would want the bird and would keep it for the rest of the bird's life.
Just like a child, it is not good to shift a bird from home to home. I currently have 5 birds in my home that will NOT go to any other home without me. Some of my birds have been in as many as 7 homes in their lives.

A pet store will not buy your parakeet, but if you give it to them they will take it, not to re sell most likely one of them will keep it or know some one that is looking for one, I gave my parakeet to a pet store cage and all and the woman told me her daughter had wanted one so I said NOW she has it,she was very nice.

I suggest putting an ad on petfinder classifieds in your state or Craigslist and ask for a small adoption fee. Pet stores might not buy a parakeet not knowing where he came from etc.
Pets are not disposable like garbage.

You could try calling around to local pet stores, or put and ad in the local newspaper.

If you have a friend who loves animals, why not give it away? At least you know it would go to a good home.
