My husband took me out to dinner last nite, and Sunday is the day I usually make my 'big' dinner. So saturday nite supper is usually a crap shoot. My husband found a can of sloppy joe stuff way in back of cabinet and asked me to make those since they are fast and easy. Good enuff, but I am bored with them just 'out of the can'. Anyone else like Sloppy joes and have an unusual way of eating them or strange condiments for topping them with? I am hoping someone out there can get me excited about eating a Sloppy Joe tonite! [ and for the record my husband's name is Carmine, not JOE so no dirty talk you bad people out there! :) ]

LOL, I'm cooking a pot of it right now!
I make homemade Cole slaw to go with it and we have chips too.
This is how I make them.......
2 lbs lean ground beef
1 med onion
1/2 green pepper
Saute beef onion and pepper until browned, drain fat
Add 1 small bottle ketchup and 2 cups water
simmer about 2 hours adding worchestire sauce and vinegar to taste
serve on buns with slaw on top and chips on the side. I only make this two or three times a year so I don't get burned out on it.

I like sloppy Joe's with mashed potatoes and whole kernel corn on the side. A favorite of my son, now grown, when he was a child. I don't eat that or fish sticks, mashed potatoes and green peas or ravioli any more either! LOL!
Prepare a relish tray of thinly sliced purple onions, spicy shredded cheeses for tacos or slices of monterey jack w/jalepeno peppers, sliced pickles, etc. That sounds pretty tasty.

I Love sloppy joe's.
Just like that out of the can. But sometimes I melt mozzarella cheese or provolone cheese on them. Sometimes I put onions on mine(raw ones). That is about all. Enjoy whatever you decide.
P.S. I love this site too!

Top it with some cheese, like cheddar or provolone. Or mix in a little can of green chiles and/or some black olives. Call it a Sloppy Junk. :)

My recipe is pretty standard except i add Pickle relish
tomato sauce instead of ketchup
worecestire sauce
and for a different variation BBQ sauce, there are many flavors so that you can give them a different ZING each time.
