will there be any possible side effects with downgrading a computer to an older operating system?

do a restart on your computer and as it begins to bootup, hold down the F-2 key until you see the boot screen. There, with any luck, depending on how you installed your new Vista operating system, you will have a choice to boot to an older version of windows. Use the arrow key's to select, then hit enter.
If that doesn't work, it may be possible to do a system restore, that's if you had a restore point set. Go to help in the start menu and there you will find system restore. Good luck. Mikie.

First you will have to remove the Vista software from your PC then you will have to re-install Windows XP from a installation CD so that the program will run smoothly, if you really want Vista on a PC then wait for about six months then buy a new PC with Vista already installed.
But remember that because Vista is a new operating system there might be a shortage of software to buy for it.
Good luck.

I heard that you need a processing speed of at least 1Gig in order for Vista to work properly. I never upgrad anymore after going from 2000 to XP! Now, I wait until it's time to buy a new machine and go with the new operating system.

Ask Microsoft -- as it sits vista sometimes will not allow an earlier version of windows to be reinstalled even if you uninstall vista. Was yours a clean install or an upgrade - if upgrade
1. how close are you on memory ?
2. How close are you on processor speed.

If memory good and speed good did you try to
reload vista from the CD and use repair from disk?

Easiest to reinstall XP to a clean hard drive.

Did you purchase Vista from a retail outlet? If so report the problem to Microsoft. If you downloaded from the net Microsoft will fix it for you. Ignore those who tell you never to update. If no one ever upgraded everyone would still be using Sir Clive Sinclairs system, there would be no Internet and you would not be able to ask these questions.

there shouldn't be, but you will loose your files if you do a fresh install, which you will have to because system restore wont fix it.
