Hi all,

I share my space with a black german shepard (7 years old). I would like to know if anyone else has heard of or have their dogs ever eaten weird food's... I kno certain foods are not good for dogs period.. (ie citrus foods) but my shep loves eating carrots... as this is my fav food too, I always have at least a bag or two. I share these sweet treats with my pup as I dont see it could hurt him. He has a dieases called Addisons, which causes him to have a "bottomless pit? when it comes to eating, so I figure at least he is eating veggies...

Are there any other human foods that he can eat that wont cause the weight gain???

thanks in advance!

l~

Hi I have three all balck GSD and one black and cream I know it is hard when you have a dog with Addisons and carrots are a great treat for them. There are a few other foods that you could think about frozen peas, green beans, cut up apples and bannans. Try to avoid grapes ther can cause pancerantitus, and broccoli is also not so good. Hope I helped. Lisa Anderson

Lots of dogs have diarrhea after eating canned food - ever look at the consistency of it in the bowl - what goes in is what comes out! If you ate tinned "beef hotpot" every day you'd be rushing to the toilet too. Usually they get over the diarrhea if they eat it long enough, but they never stop the slightly sloppy poo. A GOOD brand of complete dried food is ideal, and mix it up for variety every now and then with a bit of mince, some offal or even just a gravy. My two dogs (a Corgi and a Greyhound) each get a chicken carcass (UNCOOKED) a couple of times a week as well as their dried food, and they love this - good for the teeth, coats and general wellbeing! You don't have to buy the most organically, natural, non GM etc. etc food on the market. Honestly, some of the people who stress over what they feed their dogs probably eat McDonalds themselves because they have no money left over for real people food! Ask around some local breeders and see what they feed their dogs and would recommend (at the same time don't buy the cheap stuff either - you normally have to feed them twice as much to get the same nutritional value, it's full of fillers). Mine eat ADVANCE, but that's an Aussie brand, and I don't know where you are.

Some of my dogs' favourites are squash, beans, peas, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and turnips. You could also see if he'd like some low-fat cottage cheese or no-fat, no-sugar yogurt which is good for digestion.

Carrots won't hurt your dog. I actually read somewhere that feeding carrots to your dog helps keep their teeth clean! I tried feeding mine carrots, I think he thought I was nuts!

He can have any fruits and veggies except onions, large amounts of garlic, avocados, grapes, and raisins. The onions, garlic, grapes, and raisins can be toxic, and the avocados are high in fat (but they are okay in small amounts).

green beans are a great snack taht will also help reduce weight gain, if you are also feeding things that might cause weight gain.
