Today I walked into the living room to find my 2 year old swiping a magnet over the TV screen, causing pretty pink patterns. Imagine my dismay to find the patterns are now permanent.

Now the TV is pretty old and I suppose we can afford a new one, but I'd rather not buy one just yet, you know the HD ones will surely be cheaper soon.

So does anyone know of a way to reverse this problem?

Thanks =]

It set up magnetic fields - electron beams that light up the face of the picture tube are directed magnetically to hit the exact spots required for the right colours etc.... he messed it up. To prevent this, tvs have a degaussing coil which triggers briefly when the tv is turned on. This removes any stray unwanted fields. It may take a few days - if it doesn't clear up in a week, a shop can degauss the tube for you using a coil in front of the screen. Possibly your tv's internal degaussing coil isn't working too.

enter your tv for the turner prize
call your entry " my tellys gone a pretty pink
which symbolises the futility of the
troups in war except in times of peace
(slight return)"
and it may win, then invest the winnings on a new telly

your TV may have a 'degaussing' option in the menu; if there isnt one, this should go off after a couple of days
