As I read the k(q)oran, it says just that. That a muslim shall not kill innocents. But as I read more, I find that there seems to be two exceptions to these rules:

1. In self defense.
2. In defense of Islam.

Is this correct, that murder may be committed if it is in self defense or defense of Islam?

from my research about Islam.. what your saying is true.. iv also travelled and asked meny people.. and they confirmed it..
what i can add is that in Islam you would not kill a man, women, elder, unless that person is holding a weapon and threatening you with it..
Innocent civilians and children would not be killed under any circumstances.
Also it sayes in the Quran that you should not cut the trees or bearn the villages unless there is no other way to protect your self or win the war..
if you violate any of that you would of have cometed a sin..
so in other words its not murder, because in self defence you have to protect your self or you would be killed..
The code of war is: Kill or be Killed.
Islam dose it in the most civilised, gental way..
good for you.. continu your search. search other religions too..
iv studeyed all, bible , Torah, Quran.. you should read them all too so you could have a beater understanding of all religions..
good luck..

look if an american woman soldier is fighting a muslim soldier, he cant just drop his gun and say "hey sorry, go ahead maam i cant touch you" what the heck is your problem, isnt it obvious that it can be done if they are in direct combat with you lliek if she is in the army, like she is holding a gun and charging at you. if you can avoide killing her it will be better, but unless she is so crazy as many times you disarm her she keeps finding ways to try to kil you, then its ok. (that crazy lunatic reminds me of you, no matter how hard i try to stop you you keep pulling more random s h i t out of your a s s). and no it is stupid an dnot true the whole in defense of Islam, you harras ISlam all the time and I am yet to pull a gun out and shoot you, even though i am tempted. But it doesnt say that if some womanis dissing the religion then go and kill her. i doubt you even read the quran and if you did, you take it too literal

Please read this page by a Scholar of Islamic Jurisprudence, he explains alot of what you are asking about with proofs from the law

[it is not permissible to kill their [i.e., the opponents'] women and children if they are not in direct combat.]

This is based on the Prophetic prohibition on soldiers from killing women and children, from the well known Hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allâh be pleased with them both!) related by Imams Malik, al-Shafi'i, Ahmad, al-Bukhari, Muslim, Ibn Majah, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Bayhaqi and al-Baghawi (may Allâh be well pleased with them all!) and other Hadiths.

Imam al-Subki ( may Allâh be pleased with him!) made it unequivocally clear what scholars have understood from this prohibition in which the standard rule of engagement taken from it is that: "[a Muslim soldier] may not kill any women or any child-soldiers unless they are in combat directly, and they can only be killed in self-defence" [al-Nawawi, Majmû', 21:57].

It goes without saying that men and innocent bystanders who are not direct combatants are also included in this prohibition. The nature of this prohibition is so specific and well-defined that there can be no legal justification, nor can there be a legitimate shar'î excuse, for circumventing this convention of war by targeting non-combatants or civilians whatsoever, and that the hukm shar'î of killing them is not only harâm but also a Major Sin [Kabira] and contravenes one of the principal commandments of our way of life.

This knowledgeable scholar goes on to explain why Al-Qaida and the Deviant supporters are misguided.

Osama and his astray followers have no authority to declare war, they are not the executive authority of a Muslim country, not any scholar or soldier can just declare war. It is explained in more detail on the source page.

The Terrorist Criminals are not martyrs by doing suicide bombing, but they are murders and sinners, this means they are going to be punished by God

Peace Be With You
