After you've proven she's of breeding quality by earning points toward a champion title. And she's tested of free of genetic problems known to the breed, such as luxating patellas.

Never before 2 years of age, and only after you've thoroughly researched breeding, talked with experienced breeders and know all the risks that go along with breeding.

Are you prepared to lose your dog and the litter to complications? Are you willing to pay for an emergency c-section? How about giving round the clock care to pups if the mother can't? Are you going to be responsible for the pups for their whole lives by taking them back no matter age or problem if someone you sell on to can't keep them?

The fact that you have to ask about heat cycle, (dogs don't get periods like people) shows that you are inexperienced, have not done the research, and should not breed your dog.

Instead please have her spayed. This will help her to live longer by eliminating her chances of getting uterine cancer, or pyometra, a uterine infection that can be deadly if not treated promplty. It also greatly lessens the chance she'll develop mammary cancer.

Before considering breeding I recommend that you learn more about the basics of breeding including proper terminology. A dog doesn't have a period they have heat cycles.

Also before breeding in addition to learning the basics you also need to make sure your dog is at least 2 years old, has had genetic health testing, has a good pedigree that has been carefully researched for health, temperament and longevity, has either been shown or evalauted to make sure she adheres to breed standard. You also need to learn about health problems within the Chihuahua breed as well as risks involved with pregnancy and whelping. You need to be aware that Chihuahuas have a high rate of emergency c-sections, small litters and other problems.

If you want her to mate because she needs it you can solve that by spaying her. Some places are as low as about $30 dollars. Which is worth it figuring you have to feed and take care of those puppies. A lot of times people grow tired of the animal you give them and they end up in shelters or passed from house to house.

Females stay in heat for 2-3 weeks at a time. It is best to breed her after the first week. She should begin accepting males after that time. Even if the bloodflow stops, if it has not been a full 28 days she could still be in heat. I would wait until about the 10th day before you introduce her to a male. She how she does then.

Best of luck to you, hun.

Oh yeah...it's also best not to mate if it is her first estrus (heat).

PLEASE do NOT breed her under 2 years of age and
PLEASE do not breed her if you are doing it for the money!!!!!
too many people think it's cool to breed when they have no clue what is in store for them... Breeding is COSTLY in the long run.
Sorry if this sounds cruel..however...if you do not know the when and how's of breeding... DO NOT!!!!!!!!
Before you consider breeding... go take a nice "LONG" walk through your local SPCA and then come back and tell me WHY you still want to breed your poor little dog.

If you need to ask this here, then you have no business breeding her. Someone should take her away from you, before you put her through hell.
