Many causes can lead to a burning sensation in the stomach. This can include GERD, an ulcer, inflammation of the upper digestive tract, or gallbladder disease.

Alcohol can certainly worsen an ulcer or inflammation of the digestive tract.

You can consider an upper endoscopy or upper GI series to evaluate for some of these causes. I would also check an H Pylori test - since this bacteria is associated with ulcers or inflammation.

These options can be discussed with your personal physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

The quickest thing I can think of to help that burning feeling is eat a banana.

It could be heart burn, an ulcer, bile backing up in your system due to dramtically reduced essential fatty acids (which just happened to me from eating too many lemons, oddly enough). It could be many things.

What you need to do is be kind to yourself. Eat mild foods for a few days (like veggies sauteed in olive oil, cheerios with milk and banana, etc.) and in small portions so as not to weigh down or over tax the system. Staying away from alcohol and getting extra olive oil in your diet will help also. I also found the pain was worse if I lay on my side - lay on your back with a small pillow underneat even to help stretch out the area.

If you don't feel better in a day or 2 then you should call health care professional.

Peace!

It sounds like excess acid and it may be causing an ulcer to form. Try alternating milk and mylanta-one on the hour and the other on the half hour- in small amounts. You should see a doctor and have an upper GI x-ray for diagnosis. Eat only bland foods for a while-no heavy spices and no caffiene.

I know this is going to sound werid, but suck on an ice pop. But also you should see a doctor and ask him about Nexium it worked for me. Take tums for now. Start eating little meals 5 times a day. Stay away from spicy foods.
