Yet again, up pops the Christian idea that unless you're Christian you MUST be atheist.
"Devout" is an adjective used to describe the pious, not atheists.
Pol Pot was one man. Joseph Stalin was one man. Mao is also one man. They would have to do some serious overtime to kill all those people single-handedly, wouldn't they?
So in either case, you have insane leaders and mindless followers that actually do the killing instead of the leaders doing it themselves.
The difference is that YOUR God is supposed to be good, right? So if it takes evil to create such mass killings, and Christianity is just as responsible for them as Pol Pot, then one can reach the conclusion that God is actually evil.
Add that to your comparing 100 years of human history to over 2,000 years and BILLIONS killed for your God, and it seems that you're still on the losing side, pal.

For one thing, regardless of their religious affiliation, these various genocidal killers did not kill in the name of their 'faith'.
For another, I don't fault modern Christians for the crusades, or the Spanish Inquisition, or any other atrocities commited in 'God's name'.
No modern Christian was involved in those atrocities. If they were, then I would condemn them on an individual basis, based on their own actions, rather than by condemning for their alleged affiliation to those who purport to share the same faith.
Just because some atheists have been evil doesn't mean all atheists are evil, just as the fact that some Christians have done evil things doesn't mean all Christians are evil.
Virtually every serial killer in the history of the world has drank water. Doesn't make drinking water evil.

Which atheist are you talking about specifically? I don't feel the need to bash anyone for their beliefs. However if people continue to post questions (like this one) which generalise about atheists (or anyone else really) then those people deserve any "bashing" they get for their ignorance and stupidity. You will not find atheists saying "god is stupid" or "god created an invisible man" etc because atheists do not believe in any god therefore how can he/she/it be stupid or create something if it does not exist. You believe in some all powerful god figure - fine. But don't act stupid by posting questions like this or you will be called exactly what you are.

Way to go Julia!
Killing in the name of God is the worst kind of sin!
By the way, How do people get those numbers? 70 million, 100 million, let's be real. Plus, they came to power on the arms of THEIR people. Everybody have the government they choose to one way or another. Pretty different from trying to impose a foreign choice (even a better one).

I'll have to do a little more research on these particular examples but, it is usually true that the difference is that atheists don't/didn't murder for the "cause of atheism". They happened to be murderous people who were also atheists.
Christian mass killings, on the other hand, were done in the name of religion.

Well, did they kill because of their god, or lack thereof? No; however, the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, the atrocities of the Klu Klux Klan, the whole Cortez thing, these were all done in the name of your god. They did those horrible things because they said their god told them to. Hitler was a devout Christian, he targeted a religious group. These atheists you mention did not do these things because they were atheists, they had other reasons. Most other people, however, commit genocide because of their deity.

It wasn't in the name of Atheism. Your religious leaders who killed were and are all doing it in the name of whatever religion or in the name of "God". The "Atheist killers" killed for whatever reasons they wanted too. Most likely, mental instability.

I like the first guy's point. Anyone CAN claim to be just about anything. Believing them or not may be a matter of convenience more than one of logic - whatever supports their own points-of-view.

We don't. They were extremist monsters who are just as bloody as the Christian barbarians. They are no better because they were atheists.
P.S. Stalin developed that violence from living with an abusive, RELIGIOUS, Christian father :-)
