My cat has chosen a couple of spots to do her business. I have tried every cleaner I can think of, but nothing has gotten the smell and stain out. Suggestions?

There is a product out there called Urine Gone. I'm sure you can get it at any home & garden store. Use a black lilght to detect where the stains are. I have friends who have used this and swear by it.

If your cat is having litter box issues, there are two things that need to be addressed:
1.) Clean the soiled areas
2.) Find out the source of the problem

I have had GREAT success with Nature's Miracle. You have to be sure it soaks down through the carpet, carpet pad and to the wood subfloor to get the smell out for good. The nice thing about this product is it is reasonably priced. You can get it at Super Petz, Petsmart, Petco, etc.

Figuring out what is causing the problems can be trickier. First, seeing your vet to determine whether she has an infection would be smart. They can run a urine sample to check for this.
If there isn't an infection, look at other possibilities:
1.) Changes to her normal routine. Cats are creatures of habit and don't like to be disrupted.
2.) Type of litterbox - covered or open. Some cats prefer one or the other.
3.) How many litterboxes do you have? Good rule of thumb is one more box than the number of cats you have (i.e. 2 cats, 3 litterboxes). Also, are they in a busy location. Would you like to pee in front of an audience...?
4.) Do you clean the box frequently? Some cats HATE a messy box.
5.) Is your litter too fragrant? Some cats won't go in a box that smells too perfumey.

Address all these issues, and if you still have problems - See your vet!

There are a few products you can get, either through the pet store or through your vet. If your cat has been doing this for a while, I have to say good luck. You can waste a lot of money trying to get the cat smell out of places!!! If it has been going on for some time, you may be best to replace the portion of your carpet and focusing on how to get your cat retrained on her litter box.

Likely she doesn't like her litter, it is placed in too public of a place (cats don't like doing their business when us humans are walking about too much), or her box isn't clean enough (it needs to be cleaned at LEAST once a day).

I've had good luck with a product called Nature's Miracle. It breaks down the amino acids in the urine. Otherwise, bacteria will do that job, which is what causes the putrid smell.
