My boyfriend's family are Puerto Rican and I'm white/ caucassion what ever you want to call it. Any way I met all his family last night 'cause it was a wedding and all of his family came up to us and asked us so when are you two guys getting married? He's eighteen and I'm sixteen and I'm not ready for that and I asked my boyfriend and he said he's not either. Do you think his family would go against him to? His dad was one of the people that asked that question. We've only been dating a month and I don't intend on getting married at sixteen. My parents said they were being serieous, but I don't want to look at it that way,but there was a girl there who was nineteen with two young children. Thanks....

well ur still sixteen!! of course ur not getting married right now. i think they meant will u get married if ur still together, say, at 21. thats about when u should think about getting married. and if ppl are going to make a big deal about u guys being different races, u just have to ignore it. if u truly love someone (and at 16 ur too young to tell, mind u) then u should get married.

Your Puerto Rican boyfriend must care about you to have brought you to a community wedding. Unless you both want to go on MTV's "Underaged & Engaged" and based upon his response to the marriage question, I suggest that you take your time. It's been less than 2 months afterall. Don't let the family spin you out. In the meantime, I encourage you to learn as much about your boyfriend's culture. Below are some URL's that should help.

Here are some excerpts from the Wikipedia article (URL listed below):

The nature of Puerto Rico's political relationship with the United States is the subject of ongoing debate in the island and also in the United Nations.

Puerto Rico has sometimes been said to have a (Spanish) descent majority, an extinct Amerindian population, persons of mixed ancestry, Africans, and a small Asian minority. An analysis of blood groups and protein markers determined that the Puerto Rican gene pool was comprised of 45% European contribution, 37% African, and 18% Native American.[18] A more recent study of mtDNA from 800 individuals found 61.1% as having Amerindian maternal mtDNA, 26.4% as having African maternal mtDNA, and 12.5% as having Caucasian maternal mtDNA.[19]

Are you sure they were being serious?
You certainly don't want to think about getting married at your age.You are still a child and there are far too many "children" in this world raising children already.
Your interests should be about school and getting a good education so that one day you will be ready and able to have a family of your own and be capable of raising them but that should be in the distant future.
You still need lots of time to be a child yourself.Enjoy your friends and school and don't rush. This should be the best time of your life.

Don't worry honey. Latin families are like that.
And one day ...they will ask you, how many kids will you have ?. And they will ask you, would you prefer a girl or a boy ?... let's talk about names for the babies!. HaHa
That is normal, i'm Latin. I mean is normal in Latin families. We suffer from "indiscretion"..ha,ha. Don't worry ok, just enjoy your Puerto Rican boy.

I don't think that you should be nervous or worried. You don't have to do anything that you don't want to do, and anyway, your boyfriend has said that he isn't ready either. Whether his family were being serious or not, if you aren't ready, then you aren't ready, and if you have any doubts, tell them this.

Why be worried or nervous? lets just take time slowly.... take it step - by step- .... dont worry because if you take love wit compassion and treat his family like family and vise versa ya'll can be one happy couple..... you have to learn that life has its own games and the most hardest is to love someone...so dont take it for granted because fa sho ya'll make it through the never -ending chapter XD.. take it strong.. esp from me ;]

You don't have anything to worry about. It sounds like they were only joking. My dad use to do the same thing to me when I was a young teenager.
