I am currently visiting the States for 6 months as a Canadian citizen. If I wanted to stay another 6 months, how long would I have to go back to Canada for?

As I understand it, you are allowed 180 days out of 365 without a visa. Which means you would have to return to Canada for 6 months. In actuality, it may or may not be tracked. Also, if you are out of Canada for more than 180 days out of 365, you lose your National Health Insurance, and any other benefits.

Best to check things out thoroughly and know the potential ramifications. Should be information on Canada Customs website.

I am American married to a Canadian, so we have looked into this, also, we will be snowbirds in a year, another reason we looked into this issue.
