There is a story behind it. One day a lady was walking her wiener dog and the dog saw a person eating a hot dog. Then all of a sudden, the dog started to be mean. Then, from there on in, the whole wiener dog population started to act meanly.
But, again, that is only a legend.

I have never in my life met a "mean weiner dog" perhaps they can tell your more of a cat person, or they small something on you they don't like. that breed of dog normaly is gental, so if it is more then one dog, take a look at when you are doing around them to cause this

I wonder this sometimes. I work at a vet clinic, and from my experiences they aren't mean when they are away from their home and their owners. But when they are home, man, they would eat you if they could. I think they are just very protective of their property and their owners. I know a FEW sweet dachshunds that just want to love you, even at home. But most that I have met are little terrors trying to protect their home. I will never ever own one.
I think it also has to do with the owners spoiling them to death. My brother and his wife have one. This little 8 pound dog is Vicious. And they excuse her mean behavior, and just love on her, and laugh, and say 'oh good girl, do you want a cookie?' In my brothers eyes his dog can do no wrong.

Wiener dogs, or dachshunds, are mean due to their breeding history.
Dachshunds were used as badger hunters in their earlier days, due to their long and skinny bodies. They were able to slip down badger dens (holes in the ground) and bring them out to their masters. Badgers were considered pests in those days, as they are still today in some parts of the world.
Dachshunds are small dogs, however, they believe they are big dogs. They do not see their size in the same relative manner as other small dogs do, which is why they will take on all comers.

Who advised you Dachshunds are recommend? they do no longer look to be born that way! it is all approximately socializing your domestic dog. Have him around diverse human beings continuously. Out of the domicile and backyard. Walks, canine park and so on. And severe obedience training. Dachshunds could be little locos in case you do no longer take administration. they are an Alpha breed and many times want to take the better paw.

They're not all mean.
Little dogs can sometimes fall victim to 'handbag' syndrome, where people feel that they have to pick up their little dog and carry it around all the time. Dogs that spend this much time so closely to their people can become mean and territorial, growling, barking or even biting people that get too close.

I have 2 and they are very sweet to everyone. It depends on the dog though. I have met a few that were not too friendly but that goes for all breeds.

They aren't mean. I've been around a ton and they've all been pretty sweet dogs. They're proud and a little pissy sometimes, but I think they're great dogs for the most part.
