Why did you go to the doctor on Wednesday? Was it eye related? I'd say call the office and explain that following:
1. INTRODUCTION: Hi, can I speak to a nurse please? (this is important because the people who answer the phone are generally NOT nurses). I am ______, a patient of Dr. ______. I was just there on Wednesday to be seen for _____ and everything was fine however....
2. PROBLEM: Yesterday I woke up with my eye all crusted shut, pink and swollen, I've had pinkeye before and am pretty sure I've got it now.
3. NEXT PROBLEM: The problem is that I am private pay or no insurance and can't afford to come in. Would it be possible to have Dr. _____ call in a prescription for me?
Then....wait and see what they say.
4. RESOLUTION: If they say no, ask if there are any remedies you can try at home. Then, call back the next day and repeat the above conversation. Chances are that you're either get your eye drops, good advice on a home remedy or a repeat visit to the doctor for free or a discounted rate. Good luck!

Something like this happened to me. I went to the doctor because of the flu, and the next day my eye was disgusting- all red and crusty and weepy and pink-eyes. I was ticked because the only place I had been the past three or so days was the doctor's office, because I was so sick, so I was positive I got it there. My mom ignored me until the next day, when my other eye was crusty and gross. By then it was Sunday, and I had to move to a new college that day, about two hours from home, and my doctor's office. So I got my mom to call my Doctor's office, who leave a message for the on-call doctor, who prescribed a prescription for Polymyxin that day, without ever seeing me. I would suggest you do that. I'm sure you can get a prescription for eyedrops (which aren't very expensive at all) without an office visit, especially if you imply that you think you picked it up there.
If you can't, here's another idea. I still have almost the entire bottle of my presciption eye drops. It cleared up in like two days, which left most of the bottle. I'm sure if you ask around you might be able to find someone like me who has a leftover bottle of antibiotic eyedrops. It's worth a shot.

Self-Care Tips
Here are some ways to relieve the symptoms of pinkeye:
Don't touch the eye area with your fingers. If you must wipe your eyes, use tissues.
With your eyes closed, apply a washcloth soaked in warm (not hot) water to the affected eye three to four times a day for at least 5 minutes at a time. (These soaks also help to dissolve the crusty residue of pinkeye).
Use over-the-counter eye drops. They may soothe irritation and help relieve itching.
Avoid wearing eye makeup until the infection has completely cleared up. Never share makeup with others.
Don't cover or patch the eye. This can make the infection grow.
Don't wear contact lenses while your eyes are infected.
Wash your hands often and use your own towels. Pinkeye is very contagious and can be spread from one person to another by contaminated fingers, washcloths, or towels.
I don't know if this will get rid of it, but it may help....good luck.

Any eye irritation can turn into pink eye if the person keeps irritating the eyes by rubbing them.
If you do not have a discharge from your eyes probably is just irritation or the cold virus in your eyes. Have you heard of it?
My suggestion is to wash your eyes frequently like every 3-4 hours with chamomile tea (room temperature). chamomile has anti-inflammatory properties. Do not touch your eyes, if you need to clean them with tissue, than wash your hands properly right away. Rest your eyes by not reading or watching TV and see if you have improvements. Cold eye can take up to a week. Irritation is no infection takes about 3 days. If you do have discharge and the swollen continues, you must see a doctor. Your sight is very valuable and it is worth to take care of it. For prevention measures keep your hands off your eyes, nose and mouth (all these are connected) specially during winter to prevent eye irritations.

now you see, if you lived in Canada you wouldn't have that problem - with our government medical coverage it wouldn't cost you a cent.
I shattered my ankle a couple years ago and spent 3 days in teh hospital recovering from the surgery etc where I have a plate and 6 screws inserted. It didn't cost me anything and I don't have any extended health care benefits like blue cross etc.
Regardless, you should bite the bullet and go see the doc - if you just use some generic eye drops you may aggravate it further - get a professional opinion - not advice from god knows who on this site. - it's your eye here - do you really want to take chance with it to save a few $$ ?

Go see your doctor or eye doctor. ASAP! Also don't touch them and touch anything else without washing your hands. Pink Eye is VERY, VERY contagious. After you go to the doctor and get meds., make sure that you wash anything that your face has touched since you came down with it. Bed sheets, pillowcase, wash cloth and towel. Spray your couch, car headrest with something that is antibacterial/antimicrobial. That will kill any type of bacteria that is on anything that you've touched and will keep from you or someone that you've come in contact with from getting it.

Call the doctor's office and explain the problem to him/her and ask if they could send a prescription to the pharmacy for some thing. Be sure to tell him/her that you don't have the money to pay for another visit. They may not charge you since you were there less than 5 days ago.

I had pink eye last year. And people were staring at me like crazy and my teacher told his whole class. My pink eye went away in 2 to 3 days. I used over the counter eye droplets, and dont get no one near you.

If you will call your dr. you can have them call in a Rx and the stuff for pink eye is not expensive. You probably touched something in the dr. office that someone else touched.
hope your eye gets better.

Definitely call your doctor and explain the situation. They will call something in to a pharmacy for you.
As for how you got it and not spreading it? You probably touched something in the doctor's office and touched your eye, and everytime you touched anything else you were spreading the germs. NEVER touch anything on your face if you haven't just washed your hands! It sounds hard to do but it isn't. And if you have touched your face, wash your hands again so you don't spread your germs to others.
