1. Go to the media!
2. If the son was a student, go to his classmates and ask them if they would like to participate in a fundraiser; i.e. car wash.
3. Go to the neighborhood church and ask if anyone would like to participate in a fundraiser.
4. Go to Yahoo Answers and post as you have just done.
5. Call Crime Stoppers and ask for advice.
6. Set up a website where people can donate money and also where anonymous tips can be left.
7. Go to the local bank and ask if you may leave a picture, brief story and a container for receiving donations.

Sadly, your neighbour is not alone in this awful tragedy and the ongoing suffering and turmoil. There are many others who are dealing with it too. It is commendable that friends like you have rallied to help on behalf of your neighbour's son. I can offer links to some web-sites where I found understanding and support:
Parents of Murdered Children:www.pomc.com/ (Ask the Experts)
The Worst Loss: www.counseling for loss.com/
www.friendswhocare.org/
Also: Compassionate Friends
If the local newspaper has no publication ban on the case, you could you use it to garner more public support with on-going neighbourhood meetings and fund-raisers. Public posters offering rewards for information may bring some results.
Most of all, remember that when God's law of "Thou shalt not kill" is violated, there will be justice sooner or later. May God help us!

If you cannot prove who the killer was, you are toasted without a witness. All criminals are Innocent until proven guilty and many guilty ones are free on the streets. Some people just take matters into their own hands when the time is right.

Go to your local Walmart and ask them if it would be okay to set up a small table outside for a bakesale fundraiser they are usually accomadating for a good cause. Make a sign asking for "donations" usually you will get more money that way or depending on where you live you can go to a heavily used gas station and ask them if you brought your own hoses if you could have a car wash on its site. Again ask for donations....I know all kinds of ways to raise money ...thats just a couple. Good luck!!

There are organizations designed to help victims of crime reach needed resources. One is NOVA:
http://www.trynova.org/
A google search of "victims organizations" will show many others. (Like: http://www.ncvc.org/ncvc/main.aspx?dbID=DB_VictimAssistance207)
Whether these organizations can provide money themselves to augment your reward or not, they could certainly tell you how others have gone about raising such money.
