From what I have read, Red is actually the color associated with passion and sex. This was a way that the powers that be could link sex and passion to being evil. When christianity was created at the council of Nicea, the Roman Empire was pagan by a vast majority. Pagan customs concerning sex and engaging in it were very different than that of the new christian religion. So, by linking Satan(evil) with Red(the color of passion), they could turn sexuality into something "taboo".

Red is the color of lava, which is used to help show the side of the fictional "Hell." It's then natural to show the leader of "Hell" looking as red as lava. The horns, pitchfork, pointed tail, and hoofed feet are an added touch to scare the multitudes into a religion.
If one is to read the Bible carefully, Satan is actually an angel of light. Satan is known to appear as a beautiful angel, and was a very high angel until he rebelled against God.
As for Hell, the Hell that we're taught is not true at all. Hell is from an old German word, "Hoelle" which refers to the common grave of mankind. Also, when one dies, that person becomes non-existent for all time, unless he/she becomes resurrected back to Earth, or becomes one of the few who is resurrected in spirit form as an angel. No one goes to some fiery, "red" pit of fire and torture forever.

Red is the color of danger in the animal kingdom, humans inherited that recognization. Foods that are not edible are typically red, animals and insects that are poisonous or not edible are typically red.

I was wondering about this myself, red is associated with rage, anger and pictures of Satan are often red. In my thinking, white is innocence and purity. Why isn't Satan black? (I also have ADD after a stroke, my mind wanders to many random questions. I know nothing about.)

Well, that is from renissance paintings. I think most of our visuals of the heaven, hell, what the bible looks like comes from art. But if you know the reason these artist picked red, please, tell me.
