According to the book of Genesis, the earth was not formed by evolution,God created the heavens and the earth. That's like trying to compare apples to oranges.

I think the Phil Collins one was good ;)

But in my pagan mind, I have to say because the culture of the times that wrote the Bible needed things to be simple. Can you imagine explaining evolution to a bunch of illiterates - as many were back in the days when the Word of God was spoken only by priests. That could be entertaining, but also make the job very difficult. Better to just stick with the basics.

Why would it be? God created the world and all life according to Genesis. This information was given to Moses, who did the actually writing of Genesis. The information had to be in a manner that the people of that time period could understand.
If by some chance, God used evolution, explaining this concept to those people in history would have been difficult. Best to keep it simple.

How could a bunch of illiterate goat herders who thought the earth was flat with water below it and that the sky was a dome with water above it know anything about evolution?

For crying out loud, those people had to appeal to their God for a ruling on the issue of whether or not they should be having sex with animals.

Because Phil Collins is too much of a money-grubbing whore to alienate his fanbase by mentioning it?
