Those people are close minded and insecure. My first language is English and I am trying my best to learn Español now. Once I become somewhat fluent I plan to try learning a third language. Mono Linguistic Americans can be quite ignorant, some lack perspective and seem to have some misinformed entitlement issues. I say, if you really care to be a part of the human race, make an effort to over come the barriers between us. Language is one of them. There is a saying among some other cultures....If you speak Three languages you are sophisticated, If you speak two languages you are educated, and if you speak one language you are American.Don't get me wrong, I love America, but it has some issues. : ) Enjoy your uniqueness!!

I agree with the answers ive just read here....Majority of native speakers of English in the UK (since I live here i cant speak for America but..have a feeling its the same over there) do not learn other languages. They probably feel they dont have to, they're drained of motivation. When some of them laugh at ya jus becoz u have a foreign accent it clearly means they are jealous! Maybe they even like ur accent but wont tell u. Most of the UK accents are not nice, eg. Birmingham, Liverpool....sometimes Brummy ppl wish they could sound different, if not London like then perhaps..foreign.

If you are referring to America, we don't speak English and we never have. That is why people who learn it as a second language make so little sense in America. They are learning PROPER English basically, well we speak AMERICAN English. Two different forms. I don't make fun of the people or laugh at them. I am not sure who does. That is kinda rude to make fun of them though.
To the first answerer, I am as Native as the Indians to this country. I was born here, my parents were born here and my Grandparents were born here. The Indians actually crossed the land bridge of the Beiring Straight if you want to trace it back that far, or got here some other way from Asia. People are in the end all from Mesoptamia.

I agree with what everyone else has said, but I also hate when the inconsiderate ones yell at the people (who speak little-to-no English) in a very s-l-o-w or LOUD voice.
Then when they look confused, or reply with an accent in English, the rude person shakes their head while saying something like "Well, I tried to tell'em, but I guess they don't know English...oh well." with a possibly chuckle.
I'm actually looking into a career as a preschool teacher, along with teaching E.S.L. while also teaching simple words in the native language(s) of children's classmates.
Early Language Acquisition and World Languages fascinate me.

I don't, I'm just glad they're trying to learn English. Most of my city is Hispanic in population and if someone tries to ask me something in faulty English I don't laugh. I admire the fact that they're trying. Luckily I speak some Spanish and can usually communicate back if they get stuck.
I've heard for years that when visiting other countries, the locals consider it a compliment that you gave the effort to try and learn.
The people who make fun of halted English are just cruel.

Speaking as a white woman, who believes all are equal, and remembers that all americans, save from indians, came from another country to begin with! But I'm also married to a man who's family are all believers that if you can't speak the language, go home. I think they make fun of you because they are ignorant. They can't get past themselves long enough to realize that by learning another language, you are only bettering yourself. They are intimidated by your intelegence and drive. It's hard to learn a second language. I've tried. Kudo's to those who insist on succeeding!!!

Is called ignorance intolerance.
English is my second language and I make grammars errors from time to time, but I believe that some English speaking persons should go back to elementary school.
Everyone here can make mistakes, we are imperfects.

Those people are: Ignorant & envious.
I find people with an accent are cute.
